Emergency and transitional supplies
The Rainbow Room's predominant focus is to stock standard items that are frequently needed by our clients and include items such as snacks, diapers, clothes, school supplies, toiletries, books and toys.
Our program focuses on providing hope and dignity to abused and neglected children and adults, so only new items are stocked. Exceptions are made for gently used items of car seats, cribs, high chairs, and baby beds.
Back to School Supply Drive
In 2011, over 300 children received services of emergency and transitional supplies from the Room.
The Back to School Supply Drive provides the opportunity for our children to return to school with tools to succeed. Our packet of supplies include:
- 4 uniform shirts and 4 pairs of uniform pants
- Pair of shoes
- socks and underwear
- Jacket
- Package of school supplies by grade in school
- Backpack
Children's Christmas Project
The Children's Christmas Project provides our children the opportunity to request 3 items that they would like Santa to deliver for Christmas. Community sponsors shop to fulfill these whish lists or provide monetary donations so that volunteers can shop on their behalf. Items received from general toy drives are utilized to fulfill lists of children that are not sponsored and also provide extra gifts so that each child receives items in addition to their 3 requested items.
In 2011, 606 children received presents through this program.
APS Christmas Project
Our adult clients are cared for through the holidays as well. With the assistance of our APS caseworkers, care packages are prepared that include a combination of items of need, plus a few special gifts for Christmas that would not have been available without this program.
In 2011, 35 adults received care packages through this program.
